God sent me my own little angel on Monday, August 1, 2005. It is the
most wonderful and memorable day of my life. Here’s my side of the
story.

I had a prenatal at 10 o’clock Monday morning. Mom came to my
apartment and picked up me and my sister, Candy. At the prenatal, we
discovered that my water broke the night before. I had been sitting at
about 2cm for 2 weeks or so. Mom recommended that I get something
to eat, go home, and take a nap. We went to Golden Coral for lunch. I
labored as I ate. Mom dropped us off at my home with instructions to
take a nap and call when I needed her. She left us at about 2:30 in the
afternoon.

I called between 3:30 and 4 to have mom come get us. She had an
appointment at 5. She came to get us and we went back to her house.
She left for her appointment at 5:00 on the dot. I was told to take a
nap. That wasn’t going to happen at that point. I took two warm
showers while she was gone. They helped some. Mom called at 7:45 to
check on me. She was going to tell me they were going out to eat. As
soon as I heard her I said, “Where are you?”

That was all it took. Mom said she’d be there in 10 minutes. And she
was. When she got there, she checked me and told me I was only 4cm.
It was frustrating that I wasn’t that far along. She told me that I was
probably going to be in labor all night. I was sent to the bath tub for a
hot bath while she started to set up for the birth. I got in the tub at
around 10 past 8. During contractions she would come and talk me
through each of them. The contractions were coming on harder and
lasting quite a bit longer. Around 8:20 or so, I asked mom to come
and check me again. She didn’t think I’d be much farther along, but
went ahead and checked me. I was at 6cm.

Things got a bit hectic at that point. Mom and my dad ran around
setting up the room for the birth and mom called her assistant in
Knoxville. Candy kept me company while in the bath. About 8:30 to 8:
35 I started pushing. I wasn’t consciously pushing, but my body was. I
told mom. She came and checked me. I was complete. She asked if I
wanted to have the baby in the tub. I didn’t care. She said the baby
would be cold, the tub was shallow. We went to the bed.

Things got even more hectic. During contractions, mom would coach
me, just what I needed. Between contractions the three of them were
still setting up. It was amazing. Less than 20 minutes later, the baby
was crowning. At 8:58 at night, I gave birth to Lisa Alexandra LeRoy.
Lisa is now over 9 pounds, eats all the time, and smiles all the time.
She loves her family very much. I am looking forward to all the joy
and wonderment she brings.
